WHAT ARE WATER CRYSTALS? Water crystals are tiny super-absorbent polymers. They are about the size of a sugar crystal. They are added to potting mix or added to soil in a garden bed to increase the water holding capacity of the soil. The Water crystals act like a sponge, making the crystal swell, creating a gel up to 300 times its original size, absorbing water and nutrients. I have not actually used the crystals but, I am sure they are all the same....BUT, you get so much more for your money! My plans are to use them first on my mothers grave. We have a huge flower pot on her grave that we but live plants in. Seeing we cannot go regularly to her grave site and water the flowers, we can mix these crystals in the soil and won't have to worry about watering them so often.I love my flowers but it has gotten hard for me to water everyday. This has been a god send for meArrived a day late but that is the fault of the shipping company. Smaller crystals than I expected but seem to work well. We will know for sure as time goes on if things stay wet longer in this heat wave.i love these crystals and been using them for years. i live in oklahomas southwest and growing anything here is a challenge because we often go for several weeks without any rain. these crystals save your plants from drying out. i use them in planters, but also inground. in planters i mix about a handful with soil and let them soak up as much water as possible, so the bottom of the planter is basically a little soil and waterfilled crystals, than i mix some more crystals in the rest of the soil until the planter is full, add the plant and rewater really well, after that i usually only have to water once a week and my plants are thriving. for inground plantings i dig a hole at least a foot deep, mix some of that soil with crystals that already filled with water, return the soil/crytalmixture and plant on top of it. this works very well especially for tomatoes and cucumber that have a high water consumption. hope these inspires someone to try the crystals, the price for a pound is much much cheaper than buying a couple of ounces at the gardencenters. i store some of my waterfilled crystals that are ready to use in a small fliptop cooler that i can easy carry around while i work in my garden. This is a necessary product for anyone that loves their house plants or patio plants or plants that they plant in the ground. This Cuts watering time and half and each of these crystals absorb 50 times their weight in water and hold it in suspension and a Jello like substance until the plant needs more moisture. If you put it in your hanging baskets or patio pots they won't dry out quickly on a low humidity or windy day. It last for a couple years so sometimes if you recycle your potting soil like I do you might end up with a little extra it doesn't do any harm. After a heavy rain it just looks like you're growing chunks of clear Jello and your pot. Plants love it because they never have to wilt because you miss a watering day. House plants love it because I think it helps aerate the soil with the fact that it's swells up with water and moves the soil around and then the soil and the crystals dry out and reabsorb and grow bigger so the soil is constantly aerated and kept from getting compacted. If you transfer cuttings That Grew in water and to soil that has this added to it they have no problem adapting to soil! Best invention yet to help ease the burden of drought or the burden of daily watering especially for hanging baskets. Also especially useful in areas where there's drought because when you water the water stays around the plants roots and doesn't travel too far away for the roots to find the moistureThis is not a put down, product is VERY absorbent, spread it thin! If you do get too much in one area, you will know as it turns into the coolest tadpole egg larva. Just grab some of it and put it somewhere else…or fling it at your family as I did. *Note: very difficult to get goo out of long hair.*Just started using this and I am already impressed, It is super easy to use and you can see the difference as soon as you add water!MY PLANTS ARE HAPPY ?The tiny sand sized particles expand exponentially! I have used this to add to soil as well as a replacement for starting plants that generally would use simple water. I do like it better than water alone as it hold the moisture in place better.
